The following slideshow (part 1-4) was pulled off youtube from a one hour slide presentation Scott Burdick made in Laguna Beach for American Artist's "Weekend With the Masters" event. It deals with the issues as he see them between traditional and "modern" art. I am posting this because I wholeheartedly agree with him on these issues and feel the need to share it. This is a a 20x16 inch re-do of the painting I previously posted. The first version was done was done as an experimental wash painting on a 27x23 inch panel. I didn't care about the surface for this painting because it was experimental so there were lots of cut marks in the panel from cutting canvas. I prepared the panel with white lead the same as I always do when I want a textured surface. I was surprised at how much I liked the painting and wanted to put it in the gallery. However, the cut marks that showed through in the sky did not lend themselves to the thinner quality of the painting. So, I decided to re-do it on a properly prepared 20x16 inch panel.

These are a couple of quick sketches I did of my girlfriend Emma while she was sleeping on the couch in my studio. Emma sleeping oil on lead primed linen panel, 20x16 inches.

These paintings are part of a sequence of paintings I'm doing as instructional aids to help illustrate the importance of a strong block-in.
